Restoring Files
Accidentally deleted a file? Need to recover from ransomware? DataRunsClouds makes it easy to restore your files from any backup point in time.
Point-in-Time Recovery
DataRunsClouds maintains multiple versions of your files, allowing you to restore from any point in time:
- Recover files from any backup date
- Restore previous versions of modified files
- Go back to before accidental changes or deletions
- Recover from ransomware by restoring pre-infection backups
Retention Period
Backup versions are retained according to your plan's retention policy. Standard retention is 30 days, with extended retention available on higher plans.
Restore Methods
You can restore files using several methods:

Restoring via Agent
The fastest way to restore files to the same computer:
- Open the backup agent on your computer
- Click Restore or Browse Backups
- Select the backup date you want to restore from
- Navigate to the files or folders you need
- Select the items to restore
- Choose restore location:
- Original Location - Restore files to where they were
- Custom Location - Restore to a different folder
- Click Restore
Restore Options
- Overwrite existing files - Replace current files with backup versions
- Keep both - Rename restored files if originals exist
- Skip existing - Only restore files that don't currently exist
Restoring via Dashboard
Download backed-up files through your web browser:
- Log in to app.datarunsclouds.com
- Navigate to the agent containing your files
- Click the Backups tab
- Select a backup from the list
- Browse the backup contents
- Click Download on files or folders you need
Download Size Limits
Dashboard downloads work best for individual files or small folders. For large restores (over 1GB), use the agent restore method for better performance.
Restoring Specific Files
To restore individual files:
- Choose your restore method (agent or dashboard)
- Select the backup date
- Navigate to the file location
- Select the specific file(s)
- Click Restore or Download
Restoring Folders
To restore entire folders with all contents:
- Navigate to the parent folder in the backup browser
- Select the folder you want to restore
- All subfolders and files will be included
- Click Restore
Restoring Previous Versions
To recover an older version of a file that still exists:
- Open the backup browser
- Find the file you want an older version of
- Select View Versions or browse older backup dates
- Choose the version from the date you want
- Restore to a different location to compare versions
Full System Restore
If you need to restore all backed-up data to a new computer or after a complete data loss:
- Install the backup agent on the new/rebuilt computer
- Register the agent with your account
- Open the agent and go to Restore
- Select Full Restore or Restore All
- Choose the backup date
- Select restore location
- Start the restore
Full Restore Duration
Full restores can take several hours depending on data size and internet speed. Plan accordingly and ensure stable internet connectivity.
Restore Progress
Monitor restore progress:
- Agent - Shows real-time progress, files restored, and estimated time
- Dashboard - View active restore operations and status

Canceling a Restore
If you need to stop an in-progress restore:
- Open the agent
- Find the active restore operation
- Click Cancel
Files already restored will remain; files not yet restored will be skipped.
Restore Best Practices
Before Restoring
- Verify you have enough disk space for restored files
- Close applications that might be using files you're restoring
- Consider restoring to a temporary location first
After Restoring
- Verify restored files open correctly
- Check file dates match expected backup point
- Run antivirus scan if restoring after malware incident
Troubleshooting Restores
Restore Failed
- Check internet connectivity
- Verify sufficient disk space
- Check file permissions on destination
- Try restoring to a different location
File Not Found in Backup
- Verify the file was in a backed-up path
- Check if file matches an exclusion pattern
- Try browsing an older backup date
- Confirm file existed before the backup date
Restored File Won't Open
- Verify complete download (check file size)
- Try restoring again
- Check if file was corrupted before backup
